University of Oklahoma women's basketball freshman guard Maddie Manning sustained a season-ending knee injury in practice Wednesday, Sooner head coach Sherri Coale announced Thursday.

OU Athletics says an MRI of Manning's right knee revealed a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Surgery will be scheduled sometime in the near future. The rehabilitation timetable will be around six months.

Manning earned a spot in OU's starting lineup in the team's fourth game, totaling 10 points and eight rebounds in a 73-70 victory over Arkansas in the opener of the Rainbow Wahine Showdown in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Nov. 23.

Through six games, Manning averaged 6.2 points and 3.3 rebounds and was the team's leader in field goal percentage (.625).

The Ankeny, Iowa, native was the state's Gatorade Player of the Year as a high school senior.

Oklahoma returns to its home court for a matchup with Northwestern State Thursday at 7 p.m. CT.
