Cowgirl head coach Rich Wieligman announced Monday that six high school seniors have signed on to play at Oklahoma State. Four All-State selections by the Oklahoma High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association are included in the recruiting class that will join the Cowgirl program for the 2013-14 academic year.

"We've got a lot of good, young kids who are going to push to play," Wieligman said. "This class as a whole is probably the most athletic class we've ever signed. It's very balanced, as all the kids have good size and all are athletic. They all bring something to the table that will help us.

"Pitching-wise, we've definitely added some depth," continued Wieligman. "We'll be losing our top-two pitchers in the next couple of years. Offensively, we've added some power to our team, which we always need. Players who can drive the ball over the fence and drive in runs."

Miranda Cavin, a catcher from Elk Grove, Ill., was a first-team All-State selection by the Chicago Tribune as a junior in 2012. She established single-season school records for both home runs (nine) and runs batted in (60). She finished the season with a .496 batting average and 15 stolen bases.

"Miranda is a shut-down catcher," Wieligman said. "She's got one of the best arms I've ever seen. She's a good athlete; she can run, steal bases, and she hits. But, I think the thing that really stands out is when she gets behind the plate."

Madi Ellis, a senior at Yukon High School in Yukon, Okla., was The Oklahoman's Big All-City Player of the Year this fall. She led the Millerettes to a 30-7 record after batting .528 with 38 runs and 25 RBIs. As a sophomore in 2010, she hit a two-run home run in the title game of the Class 6A state championship as Yukon defeated Jenks, 11-6. Madi can play either third base or behind the plate.

"Madi is a multi-position player," said Wieligman. "She hits the ball well and is probably one of the better hitters in the class. She can bring a lot to the table on the offensive side, and will really push to get in the middle of the lineup."

Meagan Lively, a pitcher from Monroe, La., was named the 2012 Louisiana Pitcher of the Year and a Class 4A All-State selection as a junior in 2012. She finished the season with a 20-2 record and threw five no-hitters, compiling a 0.81 earned run average. She also struck out 287 batters in leading her team to the quarterfinals of the state Class 4A tournament.

"Meagan is a right-handed pitcher out of Louisiana, but throws summer ball in California," Wieligman said. "She's going to play with one of the top club programs in California next summer. She's an outstanding pitcher and will give us a lot of depth on the pitching staff."

Madisyn Long, a shortstop at Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, led her team to two Class 5A state championships in 2010 and '11. She is a two-time first-team All-Big City selection, and batted .441 this fall with 36 RBIs and 28 runs scored. Madisyn is the niece of Cowboy football coach Mike Gundy, and the daughter of former Cowboy baseball player Jimmy Long.

"We are looking forward to getting Madi in our program," said Wieligman. "She's a quality shortstop that seems to always get the clutch hit in big situations. She's a good offensive player and a good defensive player. Madi will push hard to get in the lineup."

Peyton Walker, a pitcher from Hammon, Okla., led her team to the 2011 Class B State Championship with a 5-0 win over Leedy, throwing shutouts in all three state tournament games. She led her team to the championship game in 2012 as well. Walker finished her career with a 109-18 record in the circle, compiling nearly 1,100 strikeouts. She also had 59 career home runs.

"Peyton is a pitcher/outfielder who can hit," Wieligman said. "I look for her to bring depth to our pitching staff, but I also expect her to push in the outfield. She has tremendous power, with the ability to hit home runs and drive in runs. She's just a good all-around athlete."

Whitney Whitehorn, a pitcher from Owasso, Okla., was named to the large east squad of the All-State teams. As a junior, she pitched the Rams to the 2011 Class 6A championship game, where they lost to Jenks. As a senior in 2012, Whitehorn compiled a 22-3 record with a 0.90 ERA, 14 shutouts and two no-hitters. At the plate, she hit .487 with 17 doubles, 10 home runs and 50 RBIs.

"Whitney is a quality pitcher, but I think she's one of the better unknown hitters in the state," said Wieligman. "She always hit in high school, but she's just started hitting in summer ball, and I think that's what has made her a better hitter. She's put up great numbers, both in the circle and at the plate, so I look for her to come in and bring depth and power to our team."
