Suspected Robber Killed After Crashing Car Into NE OKC Building

A suspected robber tried to make a getaway, but ended up losing her life. A strange chain of events led up to the deadly crash in northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday morning.

A suspected robber tried to make a getaway, but ended up losing her life. A strange chain of events led up to the deadly crash in northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday morning.

Police say the suspect and a male accomplice tried to rob a man at JRS Travel Center at E. Reno and Martin Luther King Avenue around 6:15 a.m. Witnesses told police the two had a hammer and beat the victim with it.

Oklahoma City Police say a woman climbed out of the cab of a semi. She and 60-year-old Sammie Nugent beat the driver with a rubber mallet, and robbed him.

Police say the woman ran from officer before crashing into this abandoned building at N.E. 18th and Martin Luther King. She died at the scene of the accident.

During the chase, officers say other truck drivers came to the victim's defense.

Nugent is being held in the Oklahoma county jail on a robbery complaint. Police are not releasing the identity of the female suspect who died in the crash until they can notify her family.

Police say they are both considered transients.

The victim of the robbery sustained only minor injuries and left the state shortly after the attack
