Since 1891 when official records began, we have had 12 White Christmases here in OKC. Out of those 12, half of them were only a trace, but hey, that counts! In 1914 we had 6 inches of snow on December 25th and that was the most until the Christmas Eve Blizzard of 2009. In 2009 we saw 14 inches of snow in Oklahoma City and many of us were asking ourselves if we had moved to the Arctic Circle. That was an unbelievable storm.

Now that Christmas is a short 8 days away, many Oklahomans are wondering if 2012 will be lucky number 13 on our White Christmas list. I have to say data does suggest there will be a winter storm in the southern plains on the 25th or 26th. Track, timing, and intensity are likely to change since the system is still way out over the Pacific Ocean. Once the storm makes landfall Sunday night, we will have a much better idea of what to expect here in Oklahoma. I will leave you with this, a White Christmas is NOT completely out of the question.
