An Oklahoma City man who saw two suspects trying to steal his neighbor's air conditioning unit jumped into action and grabbed his gun to stop the crime.
The man told police he and a friend returned home December 12 to the 100 block of S.W. 66th Street near Interstate 240 and Santa Fe. As they pulled into the driveway, they saw smoke coming from between the houses. They realized two men were stealing a neighbor's A/C unit.
While one man ran into the house to grab his gun, the other man stayed in his pickup and used it to block the SUV the two suspects were using to try to escape. According to the police report, the suspects rammed the man's vehicle but could not get out.
The witness came out of his house, armed with his firearm. He said that's when one of the suspects jumped out of the SUV and ran away. The second suspect stayed in the vehicle until police arrived.
Police arrested the suspect, a 17 year old, and took him to the juvenile detention center. Police used paperwork left in the SUV to identify the second suspect as 24-year-old Miguel Ramirez. They went to his home and arrested him.
Ramirez was booked into Oklahoma County jail on complaints of larceny of copper and destruction of property. The 17 year old was booked on the same two counts, as well as assault with a deadly weapon.
