Crews around the Myriad Gardens spent much of Monday making last-minute preparations before a big crowd heads into the city to ring in the new year. Opening night organizers with the Arts Council of Oklahoma City expect upwards of 75,000 to 80,000 people to come out for New Year's Eve.

With nine indoor venues, featuring 40 performances and activities, organizers say there is something for the whole family to enjoy. There will be children's areas, comedy acts, a roller derby and musical performances ranging from rock to classical.

The big finale planned for this year will be different from years past. The ball will still rise up but a huge fireworks show will launch from atop the Devon Energy Center parking garage right above the crowd, which is new this year. This year's finale will last about 20 minutes with the fireworks show choreographed to music at the Myriad Gardens.

The one big worry Monday was whether or not Mother Nature will cooperate. Officials at EMSA said they would have additional ambulance crews on stand-by near the Opening Night event with smaller ASAP transport units patrolling inside the area. They warn the cold weather could lead to hypothermia for at-risk people including young children and elderly adults.

They ask everyone to keep an eye out for signs of people being too cold such as turning white and being very cold to the touch and violent shivering. EMSA officials also reminded everyone to bundle up in layers and keep rain gear handy in case of any precipitation.

Other than that, they expect a fun night in Downtown Oklahoma City.
