Spencer Police say they have persons of interest in Monday night's violent home invasion.

Investigators have been following up on leads in the case Tuesday, but at this point they haven't arrested anyone yet.

The man who was attacked told News 9 he's been buying and selling jewelry for over 30 years, and investigators say he was targeted.

The robbery happened just after 7:00 Monday night in the 9700 block of N.E. 26th Street. The victims are in their 60s.

The man told News 9 he'd bought some jewelry Monday, and was going out to his car where three robbers were hiding.

"He was actually on his cell phone with that person when he went out to his car to see if it was inside of the vehicle, and that's when he was actually attacked and assaulted," Chief Virgil Green said.

One masked robber attacked him from behind and held him at gunpoint, while another armed robber broke inside, demanding money and jewelry from the man's wife.

"It's definitely something where we feel like the people, the three male subjects who came to the residence, they definitely had intent, they knew why they were coming to the home, so we definitely feel like he was actually targeted," Chief Green said.

The thieves took off with 120 bucks in cash and about $1,000 in jewelry. Police say they're interviewing the people involved in the jewelry purchase the victim made on Monday.

The thieves also stole the couple's car, but police recovered it at a nearby church soon after the home invasion happened.

Anyone with information on this crime is asked to call the Spencer Police Department.

Police say they're looking for a black man, about 5'9", 175 lbs. and two white men, about 5'9", weighing 150-160 lbs.
