Free Concert At Myriad Gardens To Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr.

A free concert will be held at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, January 21.

A free concert will be held at the Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

According to event organizers, gospel choirs from Oklahoma City University, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Central Oklahoma will be combined to perform at the Gardens Restaurant area at 2 p.m. Monday, January 21. The event is free and open to the public. It does not require reservations.

Langston Professor Jim Showalter will give a presentation on George Washing Carver, "The Peanut Man," whose birthday is also in January, and what he did to better the lives of all Americans. This presentation takes place at 10:30 a.m. in the Terrace Room in the Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory.

Participants can plant a peanut to take home with them. Cost for this activity is $2 per nonmember, and free for members.

The Devon Ice Rink will also extend its hours and will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
