It's way overdue, but at last there appears to be some serious movement toward fixing our illegal immigration disaster.
I don't call it immigration reform because that sounds like we simply need to adjust some of our current policies.
It doesn't adequately describe the mess we're in because politicians didn't have the backbone to take it on. And it better not be done behind closed doors like the Healthcare overhaul was.
A group of Senators from both parties are recommending the kind of plan I've favored for a couple of years.
First we close down the borders until we can figure out who's here... you're here illegally you have 90 days to register with the government.. if you don't you're gone no if's, and's or but's.
Then if you're being productive and not just milking U-S taxpayers you'll have a chance to earn citizenship over time... but you will also have to pay a fine, for entering this country illegally.
And I'd make it punitive too.. 2 to 3 thousand dollars to be paid over time.
President Obama is expected to lay out his plan tomorrow, I hope it starts with securing the borders, and not just continuing this ridiculous game of hide and seek like I've personally witnessed in Southern Texas and Arizona.
