Sgt. Mycal Prince worked for the Minco Police Department and started training a German Sheppard named Bayca, when the animal was just a puppy.

Mycal Prince's family now wants to buy Bayca from the Minco Police Department.

The money will allow the Minco Police Department the chance to buy a new police K-9, that would be handled by a new K-9 officer who started in December.

"I have peace with her," said Surana Prince about Bayca. "I think she'd be helpful to not only me, but my children too."

But since Bayca is considered government property, the city will accept sealed bids for the animal.

"You can't just sell it of give it to someone, it has to be declared surplus and we will put it up for bid," said Minco Mayor Watson Mitchell.

Mayor Mitchell does not think there will be any other bidders. The Minco City Council will also take the animal's welfare into consideration before making a final decision on March 4.
