OU's Gascoigne Named Big 12 Pitcher Of The Week

Senior pitcher Michelle Gascoigne's performance at last weekend's Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif., has netted her Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors.

It's the first time in her career that Gascoigne has won the award, and the Sooners have now claimed both Pitcher of the Week honors this season after Keilani Ricketts was recognized last week.

Gascoigne helped the No. 1/2 Oklahoma softball team stay undefeated at 10-0 as the team went 5-0 last weekend. Appearing in four of the five games, Gascoigne posted a 3-0 record and gave up just one earned run in 18.2 innings for a 0.38 ERA. She also struck out 36 and walked just two as she threw two shutouts of her own and combined on another.

In the tournament's opening game against UC Riverside, Gascoigne struck out a career-high 16 batters and threw the ninth shutout of her career in a 7-0 win. She retired 10 of the first 11 batters she faced and carried a no-hitter through 3.2 innings. The first eight outs of the game all came via strikeout, with five of them swinging and three looking.

After pitching the fifth and final inning of the Sooners' 11-0 win over No. 22/24 Kentucky, Gascoigne got the start against No. 16/18 Washington and hurled her second straight shutout.

She struck out 10 batters and faced just one batter over the minimum through six innings. Gascoigne gave up just three hits and didn't walk a batter. She perfect in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings. A lone single with two outs in the fourth was all the Huskies could muster before scratching across two hits in the seventh.

In Oklahoma's 7-5, nine-inning comeback win over Notre Dame, Gascoigne threw the final 3.2 innings and struck out nine batters to earn the win. She allowed three runs, one of which was earned, on five hits. The Fighting Irish's earned runs snapped a streak of 26.2 scoreless innings for Gascoigne.

On the season, Gascoigne is 5-0 with a 0.68 ERA and 59 strikeouts to just four walks in 31.0 innings pitched.
