The Mid-America Christian University Lady Evangels got a 4-of-4 performance from Kenna McCoy in the opener and then a 3-of-4 effort by Kaycee Fowler in the second game to rout the Ecclesia College Royals in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 19) at Jack Allen Field. The Lady Evangels took the first game 16-3 and then the nightcap 18-2.
The Lady Evangels jumped all over the Royals in both games, starting with the opener with two runs in the first and then a seven-run second inning that blew the game open.
McCoy reached on an infield single that scored Kaylee Hendon and was then driven home by an RBI single from Jackie Hilterbran. Hilterbran was then chased home on a triple by Erica Love, who scored on a single from Randi Gilmartin. Tiffany Holt capped the inning with a double that scored Gilmartin.
Sarah Fipps pitched four shutout innings and struck out seven to pick up the win.
McCoy and Autumn Lawrence each had three RBI in the opener.
Hilterbran then pitched the nightcap and earned the win by pitching three innings and giving up two earned runs with two strikeouts.
After the Royals scored a run to jump on top in the second game, the Lady Evangels (3-2) pulled even with a run in the first and again broke things open with seven runs in the second, a run in the third and eight more in the fourth.
Erica Love and Stevenson hit back-to-back homers to key the eight-run third inning, with Gilmartin and Carson Osborne also hitting RBI doubles in the inning.
Fowler drove in four runs in the second game and Holt had three RBI.
The Lady Evangels are next scheduled to host McPherson College on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 23) at noon.
