The American Red Cross has opened a shelter in Woodward to help travelers stranded by Monday's deadly blizzard.

The winter storm dumped more than a foot of snow across Woodward, shutting down highways and leaving some drivers with no place to go.

Woodward Emergency Manger Matt Lehenbauer asked the Red Cross to provide a place for stranded travelers. The Red Cross opened a shelter at the Pioneer Room on 9th Street. The shelter will remain open as long as it is needed.

Schools, businesses and roads remain closed in Woodward as the city tries to recover from the powerful winter storm.
