USAO Sweeps SAC Baseball Honors

After a strong sweep over Bethany College, Drovers took both Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards.

Centerfielder Brian Vigo was named SAC Player of the Week, while Seth Sturgeon earned conference Pitcher of the Week honors.

Sturgeon led the Drovers to a complete game shutout in the third and final game of the series.

In his seven innings on the mound, he allowed just three hits while throwing a total of seven strikeouts. Additionally, he walked just two batters.

For the season, Sturgeon (3-1) has thrown 22 strikeouts and just four walks.

The Drovers went on to win that game 4-0. They are 15-2 on the season.

Sturgeon is sociology senior from Enid. He is the son of Steve and Connie Hart.

In the three games of the weekend, Vigo had seven hits, scored four runs and drove in a total of eight runs.

Of those seven hits, three were home runs, including a three-RBI homer over the scoreboard and two solo bombs.

On the series, Vigo averaged .538 at the plate, with a slugging average of 1.231.

For the season, Vigo leads the team in batting average at .404 and home runs with seven. He has scored 13 runs and had 21 RBIs for the season.

He is a physical education senior from Carolina, Puerto Rico. He is the son of Rafael Vigo and Cynthia Sauréz.

The Drovers are scheduled to play their next series against Hillsdale Free Will Baptist College on Friday and Saturday. A nine-inning game will begin at Hillsdale in Moore at 2 p.m. Friday, followed by a USAO home game at 2 p.m. Saturday.
