OU Sweeps Doubleheader

Before a thunderstorm swept through Norman Saturday afternoon, the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners opened up a storm of its own, run-ruling both Northern Colorado and Drake at Marita Hynes Field.

Combined with Friday nights' wins, the Sooners won all four games over the weekend by a combined score of 47-2.

In the first game against Northern Colorado, the Sooners beat the Bears 10-0 in five innings behind a pair of home runs and six RBIs from Keilani Ricketts.

Lauren Chamberlain also homered, her fourth of the weekend, as the Sooners scored all 10 of their runs in the first three innings.

Michelle Gascoigne improved to 9-1 this season with the win, allowing just a single hit. She also struck out 11 batters including the first eight of the game.

In the second game against Drake, the Sooners rolled to a 13-0 victory behind two home runs from Shelby Pendley and another homer from Chamberlain.

Ricketts pitched her eighth shutout of the season, striking out five batter and improving to 10-0 in the process.

Tulsa Sweeps Doubleheader

Tulsa junior Aimee Creger tossed 14 strikeouts and had six RBI to lead the 21st-ranked Golden Hurricane (18-5, 2-0) in a two-game sweep of the Marshall Thundering Herd (10-11, 0-2) in a Conference USA doubleheader at the Collins Family Softball Complex Saturday afternoon. Tulsa defeated the Herd 6-0 in the first game and 9-6 in the nightcap of the three-game series.

Leading 1-0, Tulsa surged past the visitors with a five-run sixth inning to take the lead and the eventual shutout victory in the series opener. Creger picked up her 10th win of the season with a three-hitter. Centerfielder Caitlin Everett went 3-4 in the contest, with one RBI, one run scored, and two stolen bases.

Trailing 4-3, the Hurricane took control in the second game with a six-run fifth inning and held on for the 9-6 victory. Creger, as the designated player, had all six of her RBI in the second game on two hits to lead the Hurricane. Lacey Middlebrooks grabbed the win to improve to 7-2 on the season, while freshman Caitlin Sill came in and got the save in the final 1.2 innings.

Tulsa and Marshall will be back on the diamond tomorrow for a 1:00 p.m. game.

OSU Wins First Of Two

The Oklahoma State Softball won two games Saturday and rides a four-game winning streak into the final day of the 2013 Mizuno Classic held at the OSU Softball Complex.  OSU rallied with four runs in the final three innings to beat Cleveland State, 4-2 and run-ruled Santa Clara, 8-0, in five innings to end the day.

In game one against Cleveland State (4-8), OSU fell behind 2-0 after giving up a two-run homer in the first inning.  However, Oklahoma State continued to fire its way back into the game.

OSU tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning.  With two runners on and one out, senior Tamara Brown doubled to left center field scoring two.  Brown went 2-for-3 at the plate.

In the evening game with Santa Clara (2-16), it was all Oklahoma State.  The Cowgirls scored six runs on three hits in the first inning.  Mikkelson had an RBI double in the inning, while sophomore Gessenia DeLaCruz scored a pair of runs with a single through the left side.

OSU added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to reach the run-rule limit.
