OK Food Bank Offers Free Meals To Students During Spring Break

The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma will offer hungry students a free lunch and snack weekdays at various Oklahoma City locations during Spring Break.

Many children can't wait for the spring break to begin, but for some kids it means a week without a meal.

According to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, many low-income families, who rely on free or reduced price lunches, struggle over school breaks to feed their families.

So to help hungry students during the March 11 through 22 break, any student 18 and under can receive a free lunch and snack weekdays at the following Oklahoma City locations, which are partner agencies of the Regional Food Bank:

Britton Christian Church, located at 922 N.W. 91 St. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.

Northwest Baptist Church, located at 3030 N.W. 23 St. Lunch is served at 12 p.m.

Douglass Recreation Center, located at 900 Carverdale. Lunch is served at 12:30 p.m. and snacks are served at 4 p.m.

Downtown YMCA, located at 1st N.W. 4 St. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and snacks are served at 3:30 p.m.

Macklanburg Recreation Center, located at 2234 N.W. 117 St. Lunch is served at 1:30 p.m. and snacks are served at 3:30 p.m.

McKinley Park, located at 1300 N. McKinley Ave. Lunch is served at 1 p.m. and snacks are served at 4 p.m.

Melrose Recreation Center, located at 7800 Melrose Ln. Lunch is served at 1:30 p.m. and snacks are served at 3:30 p.m.

Minnis Recreation Center, located at 12520 N.E. 36 St. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 2 p.m.

North Side YMCA, located at 10000 N. Pennsylvania. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 3:30 p.m.

Northwest Optimist Recreation Center, located at 3301 N.W. Grand Blvd. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 2 p.m.

Pilot Recreation Center, located at 1435 N.W. 2. Lunch is served at 1 p.m. and snacks are served at 3 p.m.

Pitts Recreation Center, located at 1920 N. Kate. Lunch is served at 1 p.m. and snacks are served at 3 p.m.

Schilling Recreation Center, located at 601 S.E. 25 St. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 4 p.m.

Sellers Recreation Center, located at 8301 S. Villa. Lunch is served at 2:30 p.m. and snacks are served at 4:30 p.m.

Southern Oaks Recreation Center, located at 400 S.W. 6 St. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 3 p.m.

Urban League, located at 3900 N. MLK Ave. Lunch is served at 12 p.m. and snacks are served at 4 p.m.

"Many children look forward to spring break," said Rodney Bivens, executive director of the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. "Spending time with friends and family is fun, but there may not be enough food to go around."

Last year during spring break, the Regional Food Bank served nearly 6,400 meals to 540 children.
