They can call it whatever they want, but the decision to shut down the tours of the White House is clearly a political power play to put the pressure on Congress to settle the sequestration cuts.
It is making a point about how dysfunctional our government is right now, but if the administration hoped to curry sympathy from the public this has blown up in their faces.
Now, they have suggested it was really the Secret Service that said ‘With the sequestration cutbacks, we can't afford the manpower to run the White House visits.' Some have estimated it at $18,000 a week, so the White House had no choice but to suspend the tours.
But come on, you have school kids from all over the country, including the group in Tulsa, with plans to visit the people's house, the President's home. They've been able to tour the Capitol, the Smithsonian. They're not closed due to sequestration and the White House shouldn't be either.
Point made, let's move on and let the kids in.
