Oklahoma City Police now believe a bar room brawl may be the cause of two murders involving a stabbing, shooting, multiple crime scenes and an arson.
Police knew little at the time of the first killing, but they now say a stabbing death at The Office nightclub on March 2 is directly connected to the murder of a woman found in a burnt car the same day four miles away.
"It was pretty bad," one witness said. "They had like seven fire trucks [here]."
Police say two men were fighting over two women at the nightclub near NW 63rd and May. Prosecutors have charged Ricky Cooper for killing Raheem Murphy at the club. Two hours later, police say one of the women involved in the bar fight was shot to death at the Willow Cliff apartments near NW 50th and MacArthur.
"It's a pretty quiet neighborhood at … times, but it has been getting bad over here," one resident said.
Police say Murphy's family and friends live at Willow Cliff apartments. The woman's body was found inside a burning car near the unit belonging to Murphy's family, according to court records. Witnesses tell police that shortly before the female victim was killed, she told Murphy's family she felt as if Murphy's death was her fault.
After the second killing, police say there was a cover-up. An apartment unit was set on fire one day after the female victim was found. Police believe the woman was shot in that unit, and search warrants reveal investigators found six bullet shells nearby.
The Medical Examiner's Office has not yet identified the female victim. Police have not named any suspects in the woman's death. Officers are interviewing Murphy's family and friends.
