An 8-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl from Chelsea, Oklahoma, were injured following an ATV crash in Mayes County Saturday morning.

It happened just before 9 a.m. near County Road EW 360 and NS 426, about seven miles west and three miles north of Adair in Mayes County.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a 2012 Artic Cat 450 ATV driven by the 8-year-old boy was westbound on a trail on a private property, when it failed to negotiate a curve. The ATV then ran off the trail, hitting a rock, and overturned.

The boy was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He suffered head, arm, leg, trunk internal and external injuries, but is said to be in stable condition.

A 7-year-old girl, who was a passenger on the ATV, was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition, suffering from head, arm, leg, trunk internal and external injuries.

Troopers listed the cause of the crash as "unsafe speed," and "inexperienced driver-young" in the OHP collision report. Neither of the children was wearing a helmet.
