Oklahoma City police arrested a 32-year-old woman accused of trying to stab her husband with a knife, just two weeks after they were married.
The man called police April 28. When officers arrived at the apartment in the 6800 block of Decon Avenue, they found the victim was bleeding from his right hand and had several scratches on his upper body and arms.
The victim told police his wife, Leighann Hamby, began punching and slapping him as soon as he walked into the apartment. He said went upstairs to get some clothes out of his closet so he could leave. He said that’s when Hamby attacked him with a knife. The victim said he grabbed the blade, cutting his right hand.
The man was able to take the knife away from Hamby just as police arrived. An officer took Hamby into custody. According to the police report, as the officer began handcuffing Hamby, the woman’s 8-year-old daughter came down the stairs and kicked the officer in the head.
The officer warned the child not to do that again. He then escorted Hamby to his patrol car.
Hamby was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on complaints of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and violation of the domestic abuse act.
