Lawton Soldier Among 5 Killed By IED Attack In Afghanistan

One of Oklahoma's Finest was killed in action in Afghanistan.

Twenty-six-year-old 1st Lt. Brandon Landrum of Lawton is among five soldiers who died Saturday. The Department of Defense says the soldiers were attacked by an enemy Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Maiwand, Afghanistan.

The other four soldiers killed have been identified as Staff Sgt. Francis G. Phillips IV, 28, of Meridian, N.Y., Spc. Kevin Cardoza, 19, of Mercedes, Texas, Spc. Thomas P. Murach, 22, of Meridian, Idaho, and Spc. Brandon J. Prescott, 24, of Bend, Oregon.

The soldiers were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36thInfantry, 1stBrigade Combat Team, 1stArmored Division, in Fort Bliss, Texas.

Lt. Landrum is the third Oklahoma soldier to die in action since March.
