A Tornado Watch is in effect until 11 PM for much of central and eastern OK near and east of I-35. This includes the Oklahoma City metro and Tulsa.
Storm initiation is possible between now and 4 PM near the I-35 corridor from Ponca City south to OKC and Ardmore within the Tornado Watch. Storms will move east-northeast at 40 mph, taking them east of I-35 after 5 PM.
All severe weather parameters will be present this afternoon, and in sufficient quantities to warrant a moderate, to high threat of severe weather within the Tornado Watch. Threats include: destructive hail larger than baseballs, damaging thunderstorm wind gusts in excess of 75 mph and tornadoes.
The tornado potential will elevate this evening as low level winds increase, especially east of I-35 for portions of northeastern OK. If storms can remain discrete at this time, the potential for strong tornadoes will exist.
