The official report from the state medical examiner's office puts the number of people killed in Monday's tornado at 24, and 9 of those victims are children.
During the early phase of the recovery efforts Monday, the medical examiner's office reported 51 deaths. Spokeswoman Amy Elliott said Tuesday morning that 24 deceased victims have been transported to the medical examiner's Oklahoma City office. Most of those victims have been identified, and their families are being allowed to claim their remains.
The number of people killed is expected to increase as search crews sift through destroyed neighborhoods.
