Police arrested two people who are accused of looting from a Moore neighborhood that was ravaged by a deadly tornado Monday afternoon.
According to the police, the two suspects were arrested at S.W. 7th Street and Kings Manor in Moore Tuesday night.
A homeowner told police that he saw the two men in the rubble of his house, and asked them what they were doing. The suspects reportedly told the residents they were looking for survivors. However, the resident said he found his belongings in the suspects' pockets, and called police.
Officers found a bag full of items the two had reportedly stolen from homes destroyed in the neighborhood.
Police have not identified the suspects at this time.
An EF-5 tornado tore across Moore Monday afternoon, killing at least 24 people and injuring hundreds.
Authorities say they are working to avoid the looting problem. The Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner is working on a badge system. Residents will be issued a badge with their picture on it, to be able to enter the neighborhoods damaged by the tornado. It will be good for 90 days.
