Police have arrested a man after witnesses said he stomped a young Colt to death outside a home in southeast Oklahoma City.

A homeowner called police May 26 to report a horse had been killed in the 900 block of S.E. 22nd Street. The woman told police 25-year-old Gustavo Zamora owned two horses he was keeping on her property, but she said he hadn't been caring for them.

The witness said Zamora and three other men came to the property and began drinking beer. Zamora then tied a rope around the neck and mouth of a 4 or 6-month-old Colt and began to lead it out of the fenced area. The witness said the young horse began to buck and kick, and eventually fell to the ground. According to the police report, that's when Zamora began stomping and kicking the horse in the head and abdomen.

Witnesses said Zamora hit the horse at least 15 times. The homeowner ran into the house to call police. By the time the officers arrived, the three men who came with Zamora had left the property. Police saw the horse lying dead on the property, and Zamora carrying a rope back to his vehicle.

When police asked Zamora for his identification, he gave them a fake driver's license from Mexico and a fake name. A witness told police Zamora's real name, and that he'd been deported three years ago, but returned to the U.S.

Police arrested Zamora for animal cruelty and giving false information. Animal control officers took the horse's body to determine its cause of death.
