EMSA issued their first heat alert of the summer months after responding to six heat-related calls on Thursday.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, excessive heat has caused more deaths in recent years than all other weather events including tornadoes, floods and hurricanes.
Heat-related illnesses can cause serious injury and even death if unattended. Warning signs include nausea, dizziness, flushed or pale skin, heavy sweating and headaches.
The Oklahoma Red Cross says persons with heat-related illness should be moved to a cool place, given cool water to drink and ice packs or cool wet cloths should be applied to the skin. The Red Cross also says that everyone can be at risk of heat-related illness once the temperature gets above 90 degrees.
Emergency personnel say the elderly and small children are most susceptible.
