Chickasha Police Discover 'Moonshine' Still In Wooded Area

Prohibition may have been repealed 80 years ago but it's still illegal to make moonshine.

An Anadarko man is in big trouble for brewing the illegal alcohol after Chickasha police discovered a still in a wooded area.

"I think it's crazy, I thought that happened in the country," exclaimed Morris Blakes who lives near the field.

But right in the city limits of Chickasha, police found an operating moonshine still along with two bottles of suspected moonshine whiskey.

"I've been here 15 years, never had to deal with something like this," said Det. Sgt. Traye Alexander, who worked the case.

Sgt. Alexander says they were alerted to the operation by the manager of the nearby Livestock Nutrition Center feed plant. The plant manager tells us he simply noticed something suspicious. Deep in the wooded area investigators would find the still and later determined it was an employee of the plant who was operating it.

"He hadn't had it here very long and his intentions for the finished product is unclear right now," said Alexander.

Police say the employee, 29-year-old Ryan Smith of Anadarko, stole the hardware to make the still, along with the corn, yeast, molasses and sugar for the alcohol from the livestock plant as well.

Charges are still pending against Smith. He has not been arrested
