One In Serious Condition After DUI Crash In Hughes County

An Atwood man is in serious condition after crashing his vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol in Hughes County early Sunday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

According to OHP, 37-year-old Gabriel Smart was driving a 2001 Nissan XTerra westbound on State Highway 1, near Calvin Okla., when the vehicle departed the road to the right.

The vehicle then struck a speed limit sign and rolled one time coming to rest on its wheels.

Smart was taken from the scene by helicopter to St. John's hospital in Tulsa where he is listed in "guarded" condition. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
