Edmond police arrested a man who is accused of setting a yard on fire and violating a protective order against him.

According to police, just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday, someone reported that their yard was on fire, and they believed the suspect was a man they have a Victim Protective Order (VPO) against. Police said the victims had requested extra patrols on their property because the man, 32-year-old Shawn Michael Crail, continued to show up.

The residents said they were asleep when someone knocked on their door to alert them to the fire. Officers responded to the home in the 3800 block of Hunters Creek Rd. and helped the residents put out the fire.

Police determined that Crail was the suspect in this case due to previous incidents, and because he was caught on the victims' surveillance camera dousing a vehicle with a liquid that appeared to be gasoline from a small gas can.

According to police, before the incident, an officer actually spoke with Crail in the 2800 block of N. Kelly. The officer said Crail was carrying a gas can, and told him that he was going to put fuel in a friend's vehicle.

When officers located Crail, he reportedly resisted arrest and began fighting the officers. The officers were able to take Crail into custody. They found a box cutter, knife and a lighter on him.

When the officers were transporting him to the Edmond Jail, police said Crail's clothes had a strong odor of gasoline.

Crail now faces several charges, including arson, obstructing an officer and VPO violation. He is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Jail without bond.
