Shawnee Man Sentenced In Wife's Murder

A Shawnee man is sentenced to 40 years in prison in his wife's murder.

Justin Byus was sentenced on Wednesday in the shooting death of his wife, Cathy Byus. Cathy Byrus' body was found in her home on Buena Vista Lane in Shawnee back on March 21. She had been shot in the face. Police say she still had her cell phone in her hand. Police arrested Justin Byus at the scene.

Court papers stated Justin Byus had called a friend that night and admitted he killed his wife after he discovered she had been texting another man. That friend called 911.

Cathy Byus was the daughter of Gary and Linda Haas, the Tecumseh couple who was murdered by escaped prison inmates. The two were driving across the country in August 2010 when they were murdered in New Mexico by escaped prison inmates from Arizona. Their bodies were found in a burned camper.
