A woman said her caregiver hit her in the back of the head with a fire log at an apartment complex in northwest Oklahoma City.

Oklahoma City police responded around 3 p.m. Thursday to an apartment complex in the 6800 block of N.W. 16th Street to an assault that had just happened.

According to police, on arrival they found Oklahoma City fire and rescue crews treating a 65-year-old woman with a large cut to the back of her head.

The woman told police she and her live-in caretaker, 55-year-old Jeffrey Abrams, had an argument about a fire he was attempting to light with logs from a nearby tree. The woman told Abrams "the grass was too dry," but the suspect still lit the fire. She said when she turned to walk away, Abrams struck her head with a log. Then Abrams ran around the side of the apartment building.

Another apartment resident told police a white male was hiding in the bushes. Abrams was found sitting in a hedge row drinking a beer. It was noted in the police report that Abrams had blood on his arms and the bridge of his nose where he appeared to have fallen in to the bushes.

Officials said Abrams was arrested in 2013 for assaulting the victim. He was booked in the Oklahoma County Jail on assault with deadly weapon, violation of domestic violence and aggravated assault charges.
