Carolina Panthers defensive end and former Oklahoma Sooner Frank Alexander has been suspended for the first four games of the 2014 season for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
Alexander, who is in his third year in the NFL, remains eligible to participate in the Panthers' offseason activities, practices and preseason games. He has started six games and recorded 3.5 sacks in the past two seasons.
He was selected from Oklahoma by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2012 draft.
Team officials have yet to speak on the specifics of the suspension.
