A former Minco Police Officer and Chief Candidate is sitting behind bars accused of stealing farm equipment worth thousands of dollars.

Canadian County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Robby A. Smith, 33, on charges of conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny of implements of husbandry.

Investigators say they began looking into the case after receiving a number of complaints from people living in southwest Canadian County about stolen property.

During the course of the investigation, deputies were able to recover a number of stolen farm equipment and a 2003 white Dodge pickup truck at a home in the 16000 block of Reno Road West. The property owner told detectives information that led them to Smith.

"My investigators quickly learned that some of the items found, tied in with and was part of a larger theft ring where multiple tractors and pieces of machinery and equipment had been taken involving tens of thousands of dollars," said Canadian County Sheriff Randall Edwards.

Local and state investigators questioned Smith about the crime and he confessed.

Investigators recovered a number of tractors and equipment over three different counties.

Smith was booked into the Canadian County Jail. His bond is set at $6,000.
