The Big 12 Conference announced Thursday that Oklahoma's football contest vs. Tennessee is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Sept. 13. The game will be broadcast in primetime from Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium by ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.
The Oklahoma-Tennessee contest will mark the initial regular season contest between these two historic college football programs. The Sooners and Volunteers haven't met since the 1968 Orange Bowl after playing their inaugural contest in the 1939 Orange Bowl, a game that marked the first of Oklahoma's 46 bowl appearances. Oklahoma and Tennessee will meet again in 2015 when the Sooners travel to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn.
Oklahoma's 2014 home schedule begins on Aug. 30 as the Sooners square off for the first time with Louisiana Tech. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. FOX Sports Oklahoma announced Thursday it will televise that game on a pay-per-view basis. The game is being televised on pay-per-view because it wasn't selected for over-the-air broadcast or cable television coverage. Pay-per-view allows fans the option to watch a game they otherwise wouldn't be able to see. A list of participating program providers offering the pay-per-view telecast and other details will be announced at a later date.
Oklahoma travels to Tulsa for an in-state non-conference contest on Sept. 6. Kickoff and television details for that game and other 2014 contests will be announced once they are finalized.
Dates and kickoff times are subject to change as adjustments are possible to accommodate television partners' requests. Fans will be notified via SoonerSports.com and the official @OU_Football Twitter as information is determined for other contests.
