3.9 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Near Choctaw

The United States Geological Survey reported a 3.9 magnitude earthquake in Oklahoma County early Saturday morning.

At 5:18 a.m. Saturday, a quake was recorded 1 mile southeast of Choctaw, eight miles northeast of Midwest City, at a depth of over three miles.

Several News 9 viewers reported feeling the tremor, including residents near Newalla, Harrah, Spencer, Del City and McLoud.

One viewer commented, "Biggest earthquake I ever felt…knocked a lot of my stuff down and shifted things in my home in Newalla."

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
