The OKC City Council struck a proposed home daycare ordinance from the agenda Tuesday morning.

Right now, you don't need to have a daycare license through the city unless you have eight or more kids at your home. Under the proposal, you would need a license at six or more children.

The classification means home daycares would have to fulfill a number of home improvements to meet building code. Things like a commercial dishwasher to a fire sprinkler system may be required.

Tuesday morning, the City Council struck the proposal from its agenda. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says they will send it back to staff for further investigation, but he doesn't think it will ever come back up for discussion before the council.

Mayor Cornett says he feels this is an issue the state legislature should take up, not the City Council.
