Police arrested a man Saturday for vandalizing the New Life Christian Church in Chickasha.

Officials say 18-year-old Jacob Raymond Franklin was arrested June 21 on a felony charge of Defacing or Injuring House of Worship.

According to court documents, on June 16, the Chickasha Police Department collected numerous reports of vandalism to vehicles, residences, storage structures, garages, utility poles and the New Life Christian Church, located at 1828 S. 13th Street.

The arrest warrant states all of the incidences were similar, because the suspect used red and/or black spray paint to mark the properties with words and symbols, including anti-God messages at the New Life Christian Church.

"After the recent vandalisms taking place here in Chickasha we reached out to the public for help and they responded," commented Chief of Police Eddie Adamson. "The Grady County Sheriff's Department received an anonymous tip after the vandalisms were reported and they passed the information along to us and we also started receiving information from other people in the community that pointed us toward this suspect."

As stated in the arrest warrant, police questioned Franklin about the spray painting, and he said "he did not remember causing the damage but would take care of it if he was responsible."

Although Franklin is charged with the damage to the church, he is also a suspect in the other recent vandalisms, according to Chief Adamson.

"With all the vandalisms being so similar with the same type of paint and designs; he is the primary suspect in the others as well but we will be continuing the investigation and hopefully will be able to clear up the other cases soon."

If convicted, Franklin could face up to two years in prison.
