A 12-year-old girl dies five days after being involved in the same wreck that killed an 11-year-old girl in Beckham County.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, on June 27, 29-year-old Cathy Michelle Baker was heading southbound on State Highway 6, when she made a left-hand turn onto State Highway 152 and was struck by a semi. The reporting trooper said the semi was driven by 44-year-old Steven Phillip Lay who was traveling northbound on State Highway 6 at the time of the collision.
The collision report states the 11-year-old girl, who was traveling with Baker, was pronounced dead at the scene due to massive injuries sustained in the collision.
OHP said the 12-year-old girl, who was also traveling with Baker, was transported to OU Medical Center, but was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday due to injuries sustained in the collision.
The collision report states Baker was treated and released from Great Plains Regional Medical Center, and Lay was not injured in the wreck.
According to OHP, the cause of the collision was "failure to yield at intersection."
