A young father was stabbed then died after chasing after his attacker in Northwest OKC on Sunday morning.
Oklahoma City police say the suspected killer is still on the loose.
According to investigators, it was a home invasion turned deadly stabbing, where a masked man broke into the victim's apartment and got into a fight.
A neighbor also living inside the two-story home on NW Ninth Street said he can't believe the man who lived next door to him is gone.
The brawl broke out around 12:30 a.m.
Police said the man was cut in the chest but still ran after his attacker. Officers found him in the street, a block away in a pool of blood, wearing his pajamas.
"Officers found a black male victim, right here on the corner, who basically had collapsed here at 10th and Klein, and apparently the victim, who may have possibly been stabbed at that point, chased his assailant out of the building or was following behind him as he ran to this location, where the victim collapsed," OCPD Capt. Nate Tarver said.
The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"He didn't deserve this, nobody deserves this, he wasn't involved in drugs, so it had to be something vindictive," the victim's neighbor said.
Police have not released the victim's name, but neighbors say he was Leroy Pleasant, who lived at the home for only six months and leaves behind twin children.
"Leroy knew how to respect people and he had a gentleness about him," the neighbor said. "I can't sit across from my room and know that he's gone."
Detectives don't know what led up to the stabbing. They have questioned witnesses, but they haven't released a good description of the suspect beyond, "a man with a bandana or mask in blue jeans without a shirt."
