Jarry Poth will head up the Aggie defense this season as he takes the reigns as the new defensive coordinator for Oklahoma Panhandle State University. The hire is pending approval of the Board of Regents which will meet again in September.
OPSU’s head coach Russell Gaskamp expressed his excitement about Poth’s arrival on campus stating, “Jarry is someone I have deeply respected and thought highly of in the coaching profession for many years. He is an extremely hard worker and will bring a work ethic that is second to none; the players will respond very well to him.”
Poth brings nineteen years coaching experience with him including two years of college coaching, sixteen years in the high ranks and one year coaching semi-professional football for a team in Austin which Gaskamp was the head coach of at the time.
When asked what his top priorities will be going into fall camp Poth responded, “Personnel. I am looking forward to getting to know the players, seeing where they fit in to the defense and how I can help put them in a position to win our first game against Adams State on September 4th.”
As Poth steps in as the new DC, he is looking to improve overall effort on the defensive side of the ball. “We are going to play with tremendous effort on each snap and execute each play until the other team quits.”
