Man Facing Child Sex Crimes After Bringing Colorado Runaway Back To OKC

An Oklahoma City man is facing a charge for attempting to illicit sexual conduct from a minor and additional child sex charges could be added.

According to police and FBI investigators, 43-year-old Mark Sumpter traveled to Colorado in order to pick up a 13-year-old girl to bring back to Oklahoma City for sex.

Records show that on June 27, OKC Police were notified by the FBI that they had recovered an endangered 13-year-old runaway, who was reported missing from Douglas County, Colo. According to the report, an investigation into social media accounts traced back to an IP address at the Heritage Park apartment complex in northwest Oklahoma City.

When Oklahoma City Police responded to the apartment they found Sumpter and the missing girl. Investigators say Sumpter began communicating with the girl on various social media sites. After exchanging messages and sexually explicit photos, Sumpter traveled to Colorado to bring her back to Oklahoma.

Investigators believe the girl was at Sumpter’s apartment for approximately seven days, during which it is alleged that Sumpter and the girl engaged in sexual activity. He could face up to life in prison for the crime.
