OSU football coach Mike Gundy is catching heat for skipping out on a couple of big media opportunities this week, chances to tout the Cowboy program.
Gundy and 64 other coaches were invited to Connecticut to make the rounds on ESPN and several of its shows on TV and on their radio network.
He bowed out, the only coach to do so.
He also "no showed" his own media golf tournament yesterday in Stillwater. They actually changed the name of it to the Cowboy Football Media Golf outing.
There is a presumption that coaches of big time programs will appear at events like those, but the OSU head coach decided, instead, to travel to his son's baseball tournament in Utah and spend time with the entire family.
Here's my thing on this. I'm sure Coach Gundy knows what his family needs right now better than any of us do, and none of us can be our best at our jobs if things are unsettled at home, or our loved ones are feeling neglected.
There will be plenty of chances to talk to sports reporters between now and the start of the season, but this time as a family is fleeting, I respect Mike Gundy for making it a priority.
