Charges have been filed against a Bethany, Oklahoma, mother who is accused of leaving her 5-year-old child alone at home.
According to police, On June 20, officers responded to the report of a boy being left alone at a home in the 4500 block of N. Redmond in Bethany.
Police were able to get in touch with the mother, Megan Cavnar. Cavnar reportedly said that she was going to Moore to pick up a friend. But her son was sleeping, so she didn’t wake him up and left him alone at home. Police said the child was unable to care for himself.
A detective asked Cavnar if she was under the influence of prescription medication at that time. Cavnar said she had taken two Klonipin and two milligrams of Topamax, according to an affidavit.
Investigators also spoke with Cavnar’s son, who said Cavnar has left him home alone more than once. He also told police that Cavnar has smoked “weed” in front of him, and that Cavnar has driven drunk more than once while he was in the vehicle.
The boy said Cavnar also smoked “weed” in the car in front of him and another baby, according to the police report.
Cavnar was taken into custody. On Friday, August 1, she has been charged with child endangerment, child neglect, driving while under the influence, and failure to stop at a stoplight.
