3.0 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Near Cherokee

The United States Geological Survey reported a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in Alfalfa County, Friday evening.

The United States Geological Survey reported a 3.0 magnitude earthquake in Alfalfa County, Friday evening.

At 8:44 p.m. Friday, a quake was recorded 16 miles east of Cherokee and 27 miles north, northwest of Enid, at a depth of over three miles.

There are no reports of major injury or damage at this time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.0 are generally the smallest ones felt by humans. Damage is more likely from quakes at a 4.0 magnitude and higher.
