Logan County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man who is accused of abusing and kidnapping a woman and her 4-year-old child.
According to the Sheriff’s office, on Wednesday, August 6, deputies responded to a domestic situation in the 1600 block of S. Western Avenue in central Logan County.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they met with a friend of the victims who said that a male resident at the house was threatening suicide with a rifle.
During the investigation, a woman and her four-year-old daughter told deputies that the suspect, 30-year-old Jonathan Lee Goodman, was angry because the child was crying. She said that Goodman grabbed the child by her hair and threw her across the room on two occasions.
The woman said Goodman also punched her daughter in the face and choked her. When she was trying to protect her daughter, Goodman reportedly choked the woman, as well.
The woman told deputies that Goodman held her and her daughter hostage, not allowing them to leave the house. He reportedly threw a sword and pipe wrench at the woman, and threatened to injure the woman even more if she did not retrieve a firearm from a vehicle outside.
According to police, after the woman returned with the rifle, Goodman chased them into the house where he shot at them twice before they were able to escape. Luckily, neither victim was struck by the gunshots.
Investigators said they have collected evidence that was consistent with the woman’s statement. They also interviewed the child, and her statement was consistent with the statements made by her mother, according to the Sheriff's office.
Goodman was arrested on multiple charges, including two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of kidnapping, one count of child abuse, and one count of domestic abuse by strangulation.
Goodman was arraigned on Friday and was bound over and held on a bail of $250,000.
