A day of fun turned tragic at Lake Texoma, after a 15-year-old drowned on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the 15-year-old and his cousin were swimming in Lake Texoma about 1 p.m. when they decided to race to a sand bar that was about 70 feet from them.
They made it about halfway there, when they both decided to stop and rest. That's when the victim began screaming for help. His cousin tried to assist him, but both of them ended up going under water.
Troopers said when the cousin was able to get back to the surface, he found the victim floating face down.
The victim then sank, but was recovered a few hours later.
Right now troopers are not releasing the boy's name.
