A 5-year-old Piedmont boy is being awarded for his quick actions to save his mother’s life.

Taron Butler received a medal on Friday for being an EMSA Everyday Hero. Officials said earlier this week, Butler’s mother Deanna collapsed at their home and became unconscious.

Butler, officials said, kept calm and called his grandmother. He told her that his mother needed help quick. The grandmother then called EMSA paramedics who were able to save Deanna’s life.
