An Oklahoma City mother, who is accused of breaking the jaw of her three-year-old daughter, is now behind bars.
Oklahoma City police arrested her late Thursday night at Children's Hospital.
That three-year-old little girl is still at Children's Hospital, undergoing treatment for her injuries.
The mother claimed her child got those injuries by falling off the bed, but doctors say it looks more like injuries occurred during a physical fight.
“I've never heard any loud noises. I've never heard her scream at her daughter or anything like that before,” said Jesse Medrano, who lives right across the hall from 25-year-old Amber Herzberg. "I wouldn't have never guessed something like this would have ever happened in a million years. I mean, she just didn't put that off as the type of person that would actually do something like that to a child.”
Medrano says he just talked with the mother and saw the daughter this week.
“The daughter was just playing with the dog, without a care in the world,” Medrano said.
Herzberg recently moved to their apartment complex located in the 5900 block of South Lee.
The police report states Herzberg claims she heard a loud boom and found her daughter unconscious, wedged between the bed and the wall.
Doctors at Children's Hospital say the little girl had a broken jaw and multiple bruises to her face and legs, injuries they say are not consistent with a fall off of a bed.
Corrina Williams also lives in the apartment complex. She says she just saw Herzberg and her daughter yesterday and did not see any bruises on the little girl's face.
“None whatsoever,” said Williams. “I didn't see anything on that baby's face.”
That's why she's so shocked at the allegations of abuse.
“I feel sorry for that little girl,” said Williams. “I mean that just devastates me!”
Herzberg is being held on a $10,000 bond.
