A young girl died from injuries suffered in an ATV accident in Mannsville last Thursday evening.

According to a report, the 12-year-old girl was driving a 2007 Yamaha Rhino ATV on private property when the accident occurred just after 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Investigators say the girl, whose name has been withheld due to her age, was driving erratically on the property when the left rear tire of the ATV separated from the wheel, causing the vehicle to roll ¼ times, ending up on top of the girl.

First responders transported the girl to Mercy Hospital in Ardmore. She was later taken by helicopter to Children's Medical Center in Dallas. It is there where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities listed the cause of the crash as ‘driver inexperience', though their investigation is still ongoing. The district will determine whether or not charges will be filed.
