An unsolved murder case has one Oklahoma family fighting for justice. They are hoping someone will come forward in the death of Ciar Pierce.
“I keep looking for him,” his mother, Sarah Burdine, said. “Wherever I go I keep thinking that he should be here.”
But he's buried in the cemetery, a reality that's still not clear to Burdine.
“It's real difficult knowing that he's here, and the person responsible is not behind bars.”
Two years later, the case is still unsolved. And two years later, a little girl visits this picture of a man she'll never get to call dad.
“He has a daughter that's heartbreaking to me,” Burdine said. “She's a blessing to us, but it's heartbreaking knowing that she never gets to meet her dad.”
Pierce was shot and killed outside a Spencer sports bar. He's now a father, and a victim to a murder case that's gone cold.
“There were an estimated 200 people at the scene that night,” Burdine said. “So we still need people to come forward.”
At one time, police arrested a suspect, but that person was later released. On Sunday, Pierce's family held a vigil to remember the 23 year old.
“Probably once a week I'm out there, and I don't know why,” she said, “I just want to see where he was last alive and see where his life ended.”
On Monday detectives called Sarah on the anniversary of his death, but not with the news she longs to hear.
“This wasn't an accident. This wasn't a disease. This was a murder,” Burdine said.
